RECONCILE HEALTH DISPARITIES. DIGNIFY HUMAN LIFE.

HiFi Lab develops and tests culturally-responsible intervention strategies that can be integrated and targeted to address determinants of HIV infection among African and African diaspora communities. Our research projects employ a range of research traditions, designs and methods including randomized controlled trials, structural equation modeling, ethnography and systematic reviews.

Collaborative Community-Centered Countermeasures for Catastrophe Containment (C6): A Strategic Failure Prevention and Community Resilience Approach to Equity in Public Health Emergency Response

The goal of the C6 partnership is to leverage clinical and research expertise in nursing, public health, medicine, and ethics to provide a multi-phase implementation study on intervention models for mitigating the impact of planetary stressors and global public health emergencies on human communities, with special attention to preventing the perpetuation of inequities in structurally marginalized communities that are likely to be overlooked and underserved in public health emergency response efforts.

The C6 partnership has two initial phases. In Phase 1 Yale scientists, led by Drs. Nelson and Vlahov, will provide an analysis of existing models for distribution and implementation of medical countermeasures across the United States—focusing on how they impact health equity. In Phase 2, the team will identify an initial implementation model that promotes equity in the distribution and uptake of medical countermeasures, using COVID-19 vaccination as a case example. The Yale team, with support from SAIC subject matter experts, will also aim to identify ways that technology (e.g., mission support, data analytics, info tech and logistics) can be used in the implementation of the evidence-informed model. Combined, these will serve as a core strategy to support broad, fast, equitable rollout of COVID-9 vaccine and other medical countermeasures that accommodate interstate variability and federal reach-back.
